Student microscopes do not have to match the parameters of the best laboratory microscopes, which are, of course, very expensive. However, it is worth choosing high-quality equipment that will be interesting and enjoyable to use, and that actually enables scientific observation.
Microscopes for students - younger and older
Microscopes are available in different types, and each of them is characterized by specific parameters. They can be easier or more difficult to use, and this element is very important if the microscope is to be used by students. If the microscope is really to be used as a teaching tool, then it should be adapted to the age of its user. Different school microscopes will be suitable for students in the early grades of elementary school, while others will work well for teenagers.
Stereo microscope for the youngest students
For first biological research, simple and compact microscopes will be completely sufficient. Stereo microscopes do not even require the preparation of samples, which can be too difficult for the youngest scientists and dangerous, since they use glass elements. We can put whole objects under the stereoscopic microscope and thus learn about the structure of plants, stones and other things in the world around us. The magnification and image quality obtained with it may not be the best, but they will still help a lot in the first biology lessons.
School microscope for older students
For older students, more advanced equipment will be better, and in this case it is worth considering, for example, a digital microscope. You can connect it to a computer and see the resulting image on its monitor. Thanks to this, students will even be able to record videos or take extraordinary photographs of the microworld, and then go back to them already while learning. Such a microscope will be more expensive, but its performance will also be much better. It allows for significant magnification and good sharpness of detailed images.
The most important parameters of microscope for students
The optics system is the most important component in any microscope, it includes the lens, microscope objective lens, eyepiece, turret and tube. The quality and performance of these components determines the magnification we can obtain with a given microscope. The higher the magnification, the more the student can enjoy the observed microorganisms. Also important is the high definition of the image obtained, which allows us to see more important elements and learn the details of their structure. Thus, an optical microscope that includes high-quality optical glass will have a wider range of purposes and will be better suited for biology lessons.
Choosing student microscopes
A student microscope should offer a magnification of at least 40x to 400x. It is also advisable to choose products offered by recognized manufacturers, such as Levenhuk or Opticon microscopes. If the optical microscope is also to be used by young children, the ergonomic design and safety of the model in question are important. A school microscope is a great introduction to the world of science, so every student should be able to use it.
